Benetti Age Gate Privacy Policy

Effective date: 13 September 2026. This is the published privacy policy for the Benetti Age Gate Shopify application and its Online Store 2.0 theme app extension.

1. Scope and Compliance Purpose

This policy covers information processed when a merchant installs or uses Benetti Age Gate, configures minimum legal age requirements (e.g. 18+, 21+), and deploys the age verification gate on their online store. It also covers what the theme app extension processes on a merchant’s storefront.

The storefront extension is one script file with no network requests. It uses a standard HTML5 dialog element to ask for age confirmation without collecting personal identities or profiling shoppers.

2. Information Processed by the Application

• Merchant credentials — the shop's *.myshopify.com domain and OAuth session tokens required to authenticate administrative dashboard requests. Stored in Google Cloud Firestore.
• Store languages — the languages published on the store (code, name and which one is primary), read with the read_locales permission each time App Home opens, to show which languages the dialog is translated into. They are not stored.
• Age verification session state — when a visitor confirms they meet the minimum required age, the cookie age_verified=1 is set in the visitor's browser for the number of days the merchant configured (1 to 365). No localStorage is used. The cookie contains no personal identifying information, no birthdate, and no government ID data.
• Configuration settings — verification method, minimum age, cookie days, dialog text, button color and exit URL. Shopify saves these in the theme's app embed settings; the app server does not receive or store them.

Zero customer personal data is collected or transmitted to external servers. The age gate operates entirely client-side in the visitor's browser. No birth dates, names, email addresses, or device fingerprints are sent to Benetti Corporation or any third party.

3. Untouchable Checkout and Cart Privacy

The application strictly adheres to the Untouchable Checkout principle. The script never interacts with, intercepts, modifies, or reads cart.json, /cart/add, or checkout button events. Shopper payment data and order histories remain 100% isolated within Shopify's secure checkout infrastructure.

4. Third-Party Processors and Infrastructure

Admin sessions are persisted securely in Google Cloud Firestore and hosted on Google Cloud Run. There are zero tracking pixels, advertising networks, or analytics SDKs embedded in the app or theme extension.

5. Data Retention and Erasure

Shoppers can reset their verification status at any time by clearing the store's cookies. When the app is uninstalled, the app/uninstalled webhook deletes the shop's stored sessions when it is received, and Shopify's later shop/redact request deletes any that remain.
